Why Is drhayesblog.com Now Password Protected?
Dear Jerry,
I love the blog. But, I don't like having to sign in with a username and password each time I want to read your blog. What gives?
From Several Doctors
Dear Readers,
I do understand and regret any inconvenience related to having to sign up for drhayesblog.com.
I decided to password protect drhayesblog.com for no other reason than to protect your confidentiality. That allows us to limit a readership to verified eyecare professionals.
I was frankly concerned about the amount of detailed financial information regarding your income, overhead expenses and cost of goods that I was putting online for all to see. Plus, there is much more to come.
I felt it was just a matter of time before one of my readers wrote me a nasty e-mail about some patient bringing in a copy of a blog I wrote on frame markups or similar.
I sincerely hope you agree with my reasoning and can live with tradeoff.
It Is Quite Easy To Save Your Username And Password
Several readers have asked if we can somehow enable the site so that verified users do not have to enter a username and password each time they sign in.
We've just added a new feature that allows this. If you want to remain logged in, just check the "Remember me" box before you click 'login'. This should keep you logged in indefinitely or until your browser clears cookies. If you are asked to login in the future, just check the box again.
Or, if you prefer to log out when you are finished reading, it is a fairly easy exercise to save your username and password for any site on your browser of choice.
In Explorer on a PC: Select Tools from the top menu, choose Internet Options and click the Content tab. Select the AutoComplete settings and make sure the "Ask me before saving passwords" box is checked. The next time you login you'll have the option of saving your password. In Safari on a Mac: It should be just a matter of going to preferences, clicking on AutoFill and making sure the "User names and passwords" box is checked.
Thanks for reading. And, as always, your feedback is welcome.
Best regards,
Jerry Hayes, OD
