Two years ago, I was speaking at an optometric meeting in Dallas when an OD pulled me aside during the break to suggest that we include the topic of employee theft and embezzlement in future talks.

Audits are usually performed by CPA's. Most firms will have an audit specialist.
No, most victims - including me - don't suspect a thing. That's how and why the perpetrator can get away with it.
who can do audits?
This was an email I received from a reader today.
Hi Dr. Hayes,
I read your blog on employee theft and am wondering what type of person could do an audit?
I don't really suspect anything, but according to those statistics many of us don't....now that's a bit alarming.
If your numbers are correct, some of us that think they have honest employees are quite obviously very wrong! I am feeling like I'd like to do some checking but don't know who to hire.
