This week Dr. Hayes interviews Dr. Richard Hom, an OD and expert on Electronic Medical Records software.

Dr. Hom talks about what EMR is and why not every practice owner will need it. He also names some the top companies currently producing EMR such as Officemate, Compulink and Maximeyes, and what he likes about them.  Overall, very informative.

EMR Implementation

Richard A Drisc... - 06/09/2010 - 08:33 am

Enjoyed the podcast. I would have to say having utilized a PMS since we opened our office in 1995 and having all patient encounters documented with an EMR since 2000 I can not think of any case where an OD would not benefit from converting from paper records to electronic. In my experience, having personally implemented an EMR/PMS and having helped numerous other docs, I see no downside to an EMR implementation regardless of whether the practice is optical or medical related. The economies of improved efficiencies and better access to your data would benefit virtually every practice.

I shudder at the thought of going back to paper. Not only would it be met with resistance by the doctors I would face a staff mutiny as well.

Keep up the good podcasts. Thanks
